A lot of people from Southern Oregon probably know about Wizard Island but if you haven't heard of it yet, then here are some things that you need to know about it.
The Wizard Island is located in the beautiful Crater Lake National Park in Klamath County, Oregon. It's an ancient volcano that was formed thousands of years and it's shaped like a cinder cone. What's interesting about it is that it's located inside of Crater Lake which is the deepest lake in the U.S.
Back then, the Klamath tribe performed their rituals in this magical site. They would use the natural surroundings in seeking purpose and answers to life. But now, the island can be explored by guests via boat from the shores of Crater Lake and you can even hike up to the summit of the island and see a 100-feet deep crater.
The trek going to the summit of Wizard Island may require one whole day because of its steep trails. One of the challenges that climbers need to face is the Cleetwood Cove Trail which is the primary trail that you need to traverse first before you can explore the rest of the area. From there, you will be taken by boats to the island where you will start exploring via the Wizard Island Summit Trail . The island itself is 763 feet high and has an area of about one square-mile but it's still a tough hike despite its somewhat average size.
But despite the advanced trails, exploring the beauty of Wizard Island is definitely worth it. You get to see the beauty of Crater Lake at the summit of the island. Make sure you drop by whenever you're around Klamath County.
