The Onion Mountain Lookout was built way back in 1916 and served as a lookout and observation structure during World War I and World War II. Lookouts mainly detect fire and other dangerous incidents so it could signal the authorities. But now, visitors can stay on the lookout and watch beautiful overlooking views of Southern Oregon. The easiest way to get here is through Grants Pass.

During day time, guests can bask in the stunning natural landscapes of the Rogue Valley being situated 4,438 feet above sea level. Plus, the lookout is on top of a 12-foot tower which gives you more elevation to witness gorgeous views. At night time, be amazed by millions of stars lighting up the sky or the shiny lights of the cities in the distant horizon.

What's great about this place is that it has some amenities that would make you feel at home. It comes with a bed, chairs, tables, refrigerator, a cooking stove, and lanterns. Also, there's a vault toilet that you can use which is just a few steps away from the tower. However, guests must bring enough water with them because there's no water supply for drinking, cooking, and washing.

Onion Mountain Lookout is perfect for campers but not for children. Guests can rent the lookout from May 27-Oct.15 for a maximum of five consecutive nights at $40 per night. For more details about reservations and directions, you can check out the Onion Mountain Lookout website.
